Fun Fact
One of the greatest walks in the history of mankind was Mahatmas Gandhi's walk to break the Salt Act by setting out the historic Dandi Salt March. At the age of 60, he started on 12th March 1930 from Sabarmati and covered the distance of 410 km to reach Dandi on 5th April 1930. During this 25 day period, Gandhi took 3 days of complete rest and stopped at 22 villages in the same route each night. This historic walk was a hallmark event for India's freedom struggle. It is estimated that during this period Mahatma Gandhi walked about 18kms or approximately 23,000 steps each day.
The 500K Step Challenge is designed to draw inspiration from Gandhi and challenge you that if the father of our nation could walk at the age of 60 this distance in good health then surely you can walk the same distance over 150 days. The 500K Step Challenge starts on August 15th, 2021 and ends on 26nd January 2022. Over these 150 days, 13 days are earmarked as holidays and you can choose to walk on any days of your choice.
You can choose to run, walk, sprint! It does not matter, as long as you cover the steps!
If you happen to join midway you can increase the step count and make up for the time lost. If you walk/run regularly, you can finish earlier too and claim your ‘finish line’ goodies
The challenge is designed to inspire you to walk the steps while accompanied by a companion app. The app can be downloaded on your mobile and will help you keep a measure of the steps you complete while giving you a total tally. As you complete the step count for each of the 22 stops that Mahatma Gandhi rested in, you will get to relive the history of the moment through the app.
