GO HERITAGE RUN - PENCH 21k, 10k and 5K
Run In India’s Premier Tiger Reserve And The Setting Of The Jungle Book – March 29, 2020!
The Pench National Park is located in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh – and the main entrance is a short 2 hour drive away from Nagpur.
Seeonee is, of course, familiar to anyone who has read Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. The book was set in the jungles of Central India and the precocious man-cub Mowgli – “stranger to man, friend of animals, brother of the wolves” – was raised by the Wolf Pack of these same Seeonee Hills. So the Pench Tiger Reserve is the fictional home of Mowgli and his friends. .
The Pench 2019 run t-shirt was inspired by The Jungle Book’s characters – Mowgli the man-cub, Baloo the bear, Akela the wolf and of course, Sher Khan the tiger. All these characters have been illustrated in the Gond style – a form of tribal and folk art practised by the Gond people who are found predominantly in Madhya Pradesh. Get yours when you sign up to run at Go Heritage Run – Pench this March.
As this is an ecologically sensitive area, the Pench 21k, Pench 10k and Pench 5 k runs will be conducted in the buffer zone of the Pench National Park. The run routes will start and finish at Kipling’s Court, Turia and will pass through small villages, past fields and snake through the outer forested areas of the Pench National Park. Being in the buffer area, you will not encounter any wildlife along the run route during the day – apart from monkeys and the occasional deer or peacock. If you sign up for a jeep safari on Run Weekend, you may sight wildlife and possiby tigers.
