Run For Biosphare Reserve - 1 Edition

Paschimbanga Vigyan Mancha, one of the largest voluntary people's science movement organisations of India has come forward to conduct 25 km , 10 km and 5 km marathon race to strengthen the demand of Darjeeling hill - terai - dooars biosphere reserve.

 “Darjeeling hill, terai and dooars” is a part of Himalayan biosphere ecological zone within India and many endangered plant and animal species of conservation importance live in different habitats within this contiguous region.

  Paschimbanga Vigyan mancha has sent a detailed proposal report to declare the forests of Darjeeling hill, terai and dooars as a biosphere reserve to the forest department of West Bengal, ministry of environment forest and climate change, Government of India & UNESCO.

 We believe that the declaration of biosphere reserve will widen the scope of conventional approach of protection and strengthen the protected area network. Prime emphasis must be given to the conservation of overall landscape and related biodiversity rather than some specific flagship species.
