The 08th Edition of Chennai Marathon, Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2020 (previously known as, The Wipro Chennai Marathon) is the biggest sporting event in Chennai. It is organized by Chennai Runners, a not-profit driven association which is being managed by energetic runner volunteers since 2006. It is one of only a running event in the nation that is completely managed by the running community.

Initially began as the ECR Run, it was a straightforward affair. Runners would start from a resort on East Coast Road (ECR) and run down 5 or 10 km, turn around and afterward have breakfast together at the retreat and that was all. There were close to 25 runners on the first ECR run and contributions were utilized to cover breakfast at the resort. The quarterly ECR Run changed into a yearly signature event in 2010.

The Chennai Marathon is presently the nation's second biggest long distance race after Mumbai and the biggest event in Chennai. There are three race categories, 10 KM, the Half Marathon (21.097 KM) and Full Marathon (42.195 Km) till the last edition.
